Backcountry Education Courses
New this season, Pacific Crest Snowcats will be offering in-the-field courses that combine a day of making turns via snowcat with clinics led by seasoned Alaskan heliguides, avalanche forecasters and veteran patrollers. A new style of avalanche class, it begins with the premise that the best turns are often made during storm cycles in which avalanche stability issues exist. Rather than asking the question "should we go skiing?", the class assumes that passionate skiers and boarders will go out when the hazard exists and focuses on avoiding the hazard, eliminating the hazard, and escaping the hazard. We will use the upward snowcat rides for lectures in order to get as much vertical experience as possible while touring avalanche prone slopes and seeing example of many different types of hazardous terrain. These classes are designed for expert skiers and snowboarders and make a great gift for loved ones.
